Install Genesis
Genesis runs on Windows 10/11, macOS 11 or later (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Linux x86_64. Each system has two ways to install it: download the installer with a direct link, or paste a command that downloads and installs it for you.
Install at your own risk. Genesis is an independent project. Its installers don't carry a commercial publisher certificate (Apple Developer ID or Windows Authenticode), so Windows and macOS warn that they can't verify who published it. That doesn't mean the file is damaged: it means you need to trust where you downloaded it from. Only download from this page or from the official releases.
#Option 1: direct download
- Download Genesis for Windows.
- Open it. You may see "Windows protected your PC" (SmartScreen).
- Click More info and then Run anyway.
- Follow the installer. It doesn't ask for administrator rights: it installs for your user only.
If the browser blocks the download ("not commonly downloaded"), choose Keep in the download's menu.
#Option 2: with a command
Open PowerShell (Start menu → type PowerShell) and paste:
irm https://genesis-app-amber.vercel.app/install.ps1 | iexIt downloads the latest version and installs it without further questions. When it's done, Genesis appears in the Start menu.
#Option 1: direct download
Download the one for your Mac:
Not sure which? Apple menu → About This Mac: if it says "Chip Apple", it's Apple Silicon.
Open it and drag Genesis to Applications.
Open Genesis. macOS will say it can't verify the developer: click OK (don't choose Move to Trash).
Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security. At the bottom you'll see "Genesis was blocked…": click Open Anyway and confirm with your password. You only need to do this once.
#Option 2: with a command
Open the Terminal app and paste:
curl -fsSL https://genesis-app-amber.vercel.app/install.sh | shIt detects whether your Mac is Apple Silicon or Intel, downloads the right version, copies it to Applications and opens it. Installed this way, macOS doesn't show the developer warning.
#If macOS says "Genesis is damaged"
That's the quarantine flag the browser puts on downloads. Remove it by pasting this into Terminal (only needed once):
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Genesis.app#Option 1: direct download
- Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, Pop!_OS: download Genesis for Linux (.deb) and double-click it: the software center opens. Click Install.
- Any distribution: download Genesis for Linux (AppImage). Right-click → Properties → Permissions → Allow executing as program, then double-click it. The AppImage updates itself.
- Fedora, openSUSE: download the
.rpmfrom the latest release and double-click it.
#Option 2: with a command
The automatic installer uses the .deb on Ubuntu and Debian, and the AppImage everywhere else (it
puts it in ~/.local/bin with a menu shortcut):
curl -fsSL https://genesis-app-amber.vercel.app/install.sh | shOr, if you prefer to do it step by step:
Ubuntu, Debian, Mint:
Terminalcurl -LO https://github.com/UreckChan/genesis-app/releases/latest/download/Genesis-Linux-x64.deb sudo apt install ./Genesis-Linux-x64.debAppImage (any distribution):
Terminalcurl -LO https://github.com/UreckChan/genesis-app/releases/latest/download/Genesis-Linux-x64.AppImage chmod +x Genesis-Linux-x64.AppImage ./Genesis-Linux-x64.AppImageFedora, openSUSE (with the
.rpmdownloaded from the latest release):Terminalsudo dnf install ./Genesis-*.x86_64.rpm
If the AppImage doesn't start, your distribution may need libfuse2
(sudo apt install libfuse2); or use the .deb.
#Verify the download
Optional. Every release includes SHA256SUMS.txt with the fingerprint of every installer. Compute
your file's fingerprint and check that it matches its line exactly:
Windows (PowerShell, in your Downloads folder):
PowerShellGet-FileHash .\Genesis-Windows-x64.exemacOS:
Terminalshasum -a 256 Genesis-macOS-AppleSilicon.dmgLinux (with
SHA256SUMS.txtin the same folder):Terminalsha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.txt --ignore-missing
If the fingerprint doesn't match, don't install it: the file is corrupted or not the original.
#Updates
Once installed, Genesis updates from Settings → About and tells you when a new version is out. Updates are signed with the project's key and Genesis checks the signature before installing them, so you don't have to repeat these steps.
#Uninstall
- Windows: Settings → Apps → Genesis → Uninstall.
- macOS: drag Genesis from Applications to the Trash.
- Linux:
sudo apt remove genesis, sudo dnf remove genesis, or delete the AppImage.
Your projects and downloaded models stay in your user folder; you can delete them first from Settings → Local AI.
