Color, effects and stabilization
Genesis comes with the finishing tools of a professional editor. You can use them:
- in the Video editor, from the Effects tab of the inspector;
- as standalone tools on Home;
- from the CLI;
- from any AI connected via MCP.
The editor's preview applies the same 3D LUT as the export (the Rust engine computes it and the GPU uses it as a texture). What you see is what you export.
#Effects tab (Video editor)
Select a video or image clip and open Effects.
| Section | What it does |
|---|---|
| Color look | 9 built-in looks, each with Strength: Cine (teal shadows, warm skin), Warm, Cool, Film, Vintage, Vivid, Soft, Black and white, and Day for night. Also Temperature and Tint. |
| LUT (.cube) | Load your camera's LUT (for example LOG → Rec.709) or one you bought. It's applied before the look. Supports 3D and 1D LUTs, with DOMAIN_MIN/MAX. |
| Green screen | Removes a green or blue background. The Eyedropper picks the color by clicking on the preview (on the original image, without effects). Adjust it with Tolerance and Edge softness; it also removes the green or blue spill from the subject. Put the clip on a track above the new background. |
| Detail | Sharpen, Blur, Vignette and Reduce noise. Noise reduction is only visible when exporting. |
| Stabilize | Removes handheld camera shake. It creates a stabilized copy and puts it on the clip; you can undo it with Ctrl+Z. |
For green screen, the mask is computed on the untouched image and the color is adjusted afterwards. That way the look doesn't change what counts as background.
#Tools
| Tool | What for |
|---|---|
video.effects |
Look, LUT, temperature and tint, vignette, sharpen, blur and noise on a video. |
video.chroma_key |
Replaces the green or blue background with an image, another video or a #RRGGBB color. |
video.stabilize |
Two-pass stabilization with vid.stab: analyzes the motion, smooths the path and applies an automatic zoom to hide the edges. If FFmpeg doesn't include vid.stab, it uses deshake. |
color.looks |
Lists the available looks. |
video.compose |
Each clip accepts fx with the same fields: key, grade, vignette, sharpen, blur and denoise. |
| Cinematic finish recipe | Stabilizes and applies a look with a soft vignette and a bit of sharpening. |
#From the CLI
Green background replaced with an image:
Terminal
genesis run video.chroma_key input=interview.mp4 background=office.jpgCine look at 80 % with a vignette:
Terminal
genesis run video.effects input=walk.mp4 'fx={"grade":{"look":"cine","strength":0.8},"vignette":0.3}'Camera LUT and a little warmer:
Terminal
genesis run video.effects input=clip_log.mp4 'fx={"grade":{"lut":"SLog3_to_709.cube","temperature":0.2}}'Stabilize with 30 frames of smoothing:
Terminal
genesis run video.stabilize input=walk.mp4 smoothing=30All together with the built-in recipe:
Terminal
genesis run recipe.acabado-cine video=walk.mp4 look=peliculaResults are saved next to the original:
interview_fondo.mp4walk_efectos.mp4walk_estable.mp4walk_pelicula.mp4
